SANDRA RAFMAN, Ph.D.
Psychologist

In her research and practice, Sandra Rafman, Ph.D. engages with children, families and communities who have experienced traumatic life events ranging from the death or disappearance of loved ones in armed conflict, disasters, and severe illness, to abuse and sibling loss.

As professor at the University of Quebec or as clinical and paediatric psychologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and the community organization, Maison d’Haïti, she has sought to implement and advance evidence-based intervention approaches that integrate human rights, and developmental, attachment and trauma perspectives. She argues that the inclusion of the moral dimension in the study of trauma and loss would aid in furthering both individual recovery and socio-economic repair.

Her forthcoming book deals with the symbolic representations and play narratives of children who have experienced traumatic events. She writes as well on the relation between ethics, technology and representation with contemporary artist Jon Rafman.
